Request your data
Last updated: 28 July 2026
This page explains how to see, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which describes what we collect and why.
Things you can do yourself, right now
If you can sign in, some changes do not need us at all:
- Correct your details. Your name, username, bio, avatar and preferences are all editable from your profile.
- Remove content you posted. Trips, photos and comments can be deleted individually.
For anything else — a copy of your data, or deleting your account entirely — email us using the details below.
How to make a request
Send an email to [email protected] and tell us what you want us to do. Any of the following are valid requests:
- Access — a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Portability — that copy in a machine-readable format.
- Correction — fix information that is wrong or incomplete.
- Deletion — erase your account and personal information.
- Restriction or objection — stop or limit how we use your information.
- Withdraw consent — where we relied on your consent to process something.
What to include
So we can find your account and be sure the request is really yours, please include:
- the email address you use to sign in to Speleo;
- your Speleo username, if you know it;
- which of the above you are asking for.
Please send the request from the email address on the account where you can. If you cannot, or if anything about the request is unclear, we may ask you for more information before we act — we are not able to hand over or delete an account’s data on the say-so of someone we cannot identify.
How long it takes
We respond within one month of receiving your request. If a request is unusually complex we may extend this by up to two further months, in which case we will tell you within that first month and explain why.
What deleting your account means
We delete your account and the personal information associated with it. As set out in the Privacy Policy, information may persist for a short period in backups that are isolated from any further use, and in no case longer than three months after your account is terminated. We may also need to keep a limited amount of information where the law requires it — for example for tax or accounting records.
Deleting your account is permanent. We cannot restore it afterwards, so please be sure before you ask.
If you are unhappy with our response
Requests are free. If we do not act on your request, we will tell you why, and you can complain to a data protection authority. Speleo is operated from Belgium, so the lead authority is the Belgian Data Protection Authority (dataprotectionauthority.be), but if you live elsewhere in the EEA or the UK you may complain to your own national authority instead.
